What We Learned at the Toronto Baby Show 2026

Updated October 27, 2026: This post was first published before the show. It now covers what we learned from parents at the Toronto Baby Show, including our survey results. From October 2 to 4, the IMGadgets team spent three days at the Fall Baby Show at the Enercare Centre in Toronto. It was our first baby and parenting show, and we went to listen more than to sell. The show welcomed 15,041 attendees over three days. According to the organizers, 69% were expecting parents, 63% were first-time parents and 68% were between 25 and 35 years old. That is exactly the audience IMLoved is built for: families preparing for a new baby and deciding what they really need. Parents stopped by to test the IMLoved BabyGo stroller, try the baby gate and play mat, and tell us what they find hardest about shopping for baby gear. Many of them also completed our parent survey. Here is what they told us, and what it means for the IMLoved range. Why We Went to the Baby Show IMGadgets is a Canadian-owned company with over a decade of experience in electronics and e-mobility. IMLoved, our baby and family line, is newer, and we wanted to build it around what parents actually need rather than what is already on every shelf. The Toronto Baby Show was the most direct way to hear that. As our president Ish Chopra put it before the show: “We want to use the show to meet parents directly and understand what they really need. As we grow IMLoved, we don’t want to simply bring products to market because we think they are needed. We want to listen to parents, understand the challenges they face and learn what is missing. Their feedback will help shape what we improve, what we develop and what we bring next. For us, that is the real value of being at the Baby Show,” says Ish Chopra, President and co-founder of IMGadgets. What We Heard From Parents These findings are based on responses from parents who completed our survey at the Toronto Baby Show. They reflect the views of those respondents and may not represent all parents in Canada. Safety came first by a wide margin. 77% of parents named product safety as either the most important factor when buying baby products or their biggest concern. Most survey respondents were still preparing: 71% were expecting, and another 23% had a newborn. That shaped what they were shopping for: Strollers were the most-wanted category (73%), followed by car seats (62%) and travel systems (48%) $251 to $500 was the most common budget for the categories they selected High cost was the second-biggest concern after safety (23%) Online research shapes decisions: 70% read online reviews and blogs, 48% use social media and 45% rely on recommendations from friends and family Seeing products in person still matters: 38% research baby products in store before buying Black Friday was the sale event parents look forward to most (75%) One more finding stood out. Over half of parents said they mainly buy baby products on Amazon, and only a handful named a specialty baby store. Parents are researching carefully, but most end up buying from large marketplaces where it can be hard to know who stands behind a product after the sale. What We Saw at the Booth The show gave visitors an opportunity to see the IMLoved products up close and get a better understanding of their features and everyday use. It also gave our team a chance to introduce the range to families at different stages of their parenting journey. Every family has different needs from preparing for a newborn arrival to finding practical products for a growing child. Seeing products in person surely helped parents understand their design, size and functionality before deciding what works best for them. How IMLoved Fits What Parents Need Each IMLoved product is backed by a Canadian team that handles warranty, service and replacement parts directly. Here is how the current range lines up with what parents told us. Safety and Everyday Essentials Safety was the top priority, strollers were the most-wanted category, and most parents budgeted $251 to $500. Parents also told us they want products that are comfortable for their baby and make daily care easier. None of them take long, and they'll tell you more than a product's colour or price tag. Look for Canadian safety requirements. The product should state that it meets Canadian safety requirements for its category, not just a general "safe" claim. Check the product before use. Make sure it is properly assembled, all locks work securely, and there are no visible defects or loose parts. Check the label. Look for the manufacturer's name, model, and date of manufacture in English and French. Ask about support. Find out who handles the warranty and repairs if something goes wrong. Tips for First-Time Parents Shopping for a first baby means making many decisions at once, often with limited time and a fixed budget. These steps can help you compare products and spend where it counts. Start with the first three months. Focus on what you will use daily from day one, such as a car seat, a safe sleep space and a stroller. Items like play tables and walkers can wait until your baby is ready for them. Set a budget for each category. Most parents we surveyed planned to spend $251 to $500 per category. Put more of your budget toward the items you will use every day and for the longest time. Check the age and weight range. Products that grow with your child, like a stroller rated from newborn to 36 months, can save you from buying twice. Always follow the manufacturer’s limits. Measure before you buy. Check a stroller’s folded size against your car trunk, measure doorways before choosing a gate, and confirm a playpen fits the room you plan to use. Compare the full cost, not just the price. Look at shipping, the warranty, who handles repairs and replacement parts, and the return policy. A lower price can cost more if no one stands behind the product after the sale. Read reviews, then see it in person if you can. Online reviews help narrow your list. Handling a product shows you how it folds, locks and feels. Be careful with secondhand gear. Check for recalls on the Government of Canada’s Recalls and Safety Alerts website. Car seats sold in Canada have an expiry date, so check it before using a used one. Plan around sales, but don’t wait on safety. Black Friday is a good time to buy larger items, but safety essentials should be in place before your baby arrives.
